Hello Margit, I would suggest calling LANARK COUNTY INTERVAL HOUSE: “We thank you for your kindness. Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue to provide support to women and kids throughout our community.

Large Items: If you have large items to donate – furniture (beds, tables, couches), appliances (stoves, fridges, freezers), or electronics (televisions, stereos etc.) please bring them the The Rebound Re-use it Centre at 2470 Ramsey Con 8, Almonte, ON K0A 1A0 -(613) 256-1700.” If you call them, maybe they will make an exception and pick-up since it is a leather couch, well worth the trip.

  2. We will have an office desk and 3 filing cabinets we need to get rid of (parents moving into retirement). They live in Smiths Falls. Any suggestions as to who could pick them up? Wouldn’t be urgent but hopefully in the next couple weeks.

    • Hi Audrie, in Lanark County (Smiths Falls) Lanark County Interval House has a link that lists places you can donate items to:

      LANARK COUNTY INTERVAL HOUSE
“We thank you for your kindness. Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue to provide support to women and kids throughout our community. https://lcih.org/shelter-wish-list/ While they don’t take big items themselves, they suggest “items can be taken to Rebound Re-use It Centre at 79 Bridge St, Almonte; 613-256-1700 or The Cheerful Giver at 2 Landsdowne Ave., Carleton Place; (613) 519-2517. You may want to call and ask if they would be willing to pick-up.

You could also try Saint Vincent de Paul’s thrift store; or the Salvation Army’s thrift store in Smiths Falls (613) 283-8311 https://thriftstore.ca/ [Salvation Army doesn’t do residential pickup according to the website, but might want to give them a call and ask in case they might be interested in making an exception considering what you want to donate.] Also, might be a nice office upgrade for an animal shelter or other organization. You may want to have photos and sizes handy when you contact them. For example, I have heard that Furry Tales Cat Rescue is a great organization https://www.furry-tales.ca/#/ email: [email protected] I don’t know if they would be interested, but you could try them. Btw, if you want free pickup, you might want to try donating to a church. Churches can usually find volunteers to do pickups.

Wishing your parents a happy and healthy retirement,

      I hope this is helpful,
      Michelle Beaupre
