I have many old pairs of glasses. Is there a group that collects them?
Hello Madeleine, David Suzuki has great information on where to donate eye glasses (like LensCrafters who have a program called OneSight) at this linkhttp://www.davidsuzuki.org/what-you-can-do/queen-of-green/faqs/recycling/how-to-recycle-old-eye-glasses/
My optometrist just accepted 10 pairs of glasses from me , & will donate to Drs Without Borders for reuse . A year all optometrists do that.
Maybe all optometrists do that
Hi Pd Laporte, thank you, yes some optometrists will collect gently used eye glasses and donate them on your behalf. Thanks!
Help Lesotho (https://www.helplesotho.org) is an Ottawa non profit organization that needs used eye glasses for their grandmothers’ programs in Lesotho. I know that just recently the CEO left Ottawa for Lesotho with a suitcase full of used eye glasses for the Grandmothers.
Best to contact Help Lesotho to confirm details.
Thank you for the info Judy, I will look into it.
I have many boxes that I would love to donate for a back to school program. can you recommend a worth program
Hi Colleen, thank you for your inquiry. That’s wonderful. Could you tell me please, many boxes of what to donate? And are the items new or gently used? Knowing that will help me know which charity to direct you to. Also, would you be delivering the boxes or would you need someone to pick-up (and if to be picked-up, what part of Ottawa are you in?
Thanks,

Hi there I have a used upright Dyson vacuum cleaner I hope to donate rather than throw in the garbage. Would this be something of interest?
Hi Jane, thank you for your question and wanting to donate a vacuum cleaner. The Appliances section for Ottawa is where you will find charities listed that could be interested.

CharityWishList.ca is like a directory. I’m sure you will find a charity listed that will be appreciative of the donation of the Dyson.
If you don’t, please let me know. Please contact the charity of your choosing directly.
Thanks,

Is there a place to donate hair products? Many full size bottles / some with very little used.
Hi Kim, could you please provide a bit more information before I can research / suggest some options. How many bottles? How many unopened? How many opened? How did you come by them – are you with a hotel perhaps? If you like, you can email me directly at [email protected] thank you for asking.
i too have shampoos conditioner herbal etc..i only have 6 bottles my mom died and these were in her closet..most are unopened or tried once any interest..i live in ottawa and if someone wants to pick them up. reply here
Hello Iraine, my condolences on the passing of your mother. Thank you for looking for others who may make use of the shampoos. The unopened bottles would likely be welcomed at St. Joe’s women’s shelter – shampoos are on their list and they still accept them even during the pandemic, but you would need to contact them directly to see if they have someone to pickup – I know they welcome drop-offs.

Is there any charity interested in used but steamed pillows? I was wondering if an animal charity would be interested.
Hi Diana, what quantity of steamed pillows are you offering? (A couple or maybe you are a hotel?) I have reached out to a cat foster charity that just did a major cat rescue of over 52 cats, but would need more info please. Thanks. Michelle Beaupre, CharityWishList.ca
We have snow tires with rims in good condition that we would like to donate. Who can we give them to?
Hi Elsie, I have left messages at some charities. I am waiting to hear back. I will email you when I hear back from a charity that is interested. Thanks. Michelle Beaupre, CharityWishList.ca
Hello,
I was wondering if there was somewhere here in the Ottawa region that could use a snow blower. It works as is but does need a new gas line (some fuel leaks around it). The fix would be easy enough and cheap for someone who is handy. We purchased a new one and the old one has another 10yrs in it I would think. I could sell it but would prefer to give to someone or some organization that could make use of it.
Hi David, you may want to contact a repair place and ask if they would donate the fix of it and then donate the blower to charity. Once fixed, I suggest contacting Rideau-Rockcliffe Resource Centre. The have an extensive list of charities and non-profits that they supply a variety of items to and may be able to rehome the blower to a charity in need. Thank you for exploring options. Michelle Beaupre, CharityWishList.ca
I have a box full of crafting supplies, stones, beads, wires, etc… where can I donate these so they don’t go to waste?
Hi Keith, there is a great organization called Art for Aid Project. They send art supplies to remote Indigenous communities in Canada. They have an office in Carleton Place that you can arrange to drop off items to. Or a couple times a year they have art supply drives and will have someone do collecting of items in Ottawa. Their website is http://www.artforaid.ca Aside from that, you could also try community centres that have art classes or senior centres. Or school art departments. Or package up and drop off at Saint Vincent de Paul store. Their contact info is on my website.
Hope this helps,
Michelle Beaupre
