  3. Hi, is this list updated?

    • CharityWishList.ca

Hi Anne, yes the list is up-to-date. I am happy to add more if you know of other Canadian Registered charities. Just let me know and I will look into adding them. Thanks.

  4. I have furniture to donate. However, I also have a mattress and box spring. The mattress has always had a mattress cover. Is this denotable or not? If not, how does one get rid of this. The furniture is in a Retirement Home.
    Thanks

Hello Ms Green, thank you for contacting CharityWishList.ca. There is a list of charities in Ottawa that are interested in furniture donations. 6. I have a bed frame and headboard that I need to get rid of for a double mattress. Would you be interested in this furniture at all?

    • CharityWishList.ca

Hi Debra, thank you for your question. You would need to contact the charity of your choice directly. CharityWishList.ca is more of a directory. It doesn’t itself accept donations. Please see the list of suggestions of charities accepting furniture in Ottawa and their contact info at https://charitywishlist.ca/select-province/ontario/ottawa/furniture-home-office-ottawa-area/ for example, Saint Vincent de Paul at tel: (613) 722-7166. If after contacting the charities on the list you still need other options, please contact me again and I will look for other options for you. Thank you for your interest in finding a charity that will make use of the frame, double mattress and headboard. I am certain a new home can be found for them. – Michelle Beaupre, ChairtyWishList.ca

    • What kind of bed frame is it?

  7. Allison Malcolm

Hello, I have a sofa bed in good condition, but no way to transport. Are there any agencies that pick up sofa beds?

    • CharityWishList.ca

Hi Allison, thank you for your question. Yes, there is a list of agencies on the same page

      https://charitywishlist.ca/select-province/ontario/ottawa/furniture-home-office-ottawa-area/

      that you left your comment.

For example, you could try: HWF (Helping with Furniture)

      http://www.helpingwithfurniture.org/furniture

They cannot accept: clothes; futons; large appliances; or furniture that is torn, stained, in need of repair, or exposed to smoke. Furniture should be free of pet hair and dust.

      Telephone: 613-745-1348 or 613-612-6228

Pick-ups are on Wednesdays from 6-8 pm.

You would need to contact the agency of your choice directly to arrange for pick-up. Thanks for wanting to find your sofa bed a new home. I’m confident that one of the agencies listed will want it as long as it is in good condition/not torn or stained. – Michelle Beaupre, CharityWishList.ca

  8. We have Dad’s house up for sale. All his personal possessions and ‘stuff’ have been removed. It is still furnished and equipped. Would you be interested in doing a clear out when it sells? We would like to donate everything to people who need it. Do you want to see what there is? It is in Manotick.

    • CharityWishList.ca

Hello Judy, thank you for your message. CharityWishList.ca helps people find charities near them that want what you want to give away. It doesn’t actually collect anything itself. But here is the link to charities who might be interested … https://charitywishlist.ca/select-province/ontario/ottawa/furniture-home-office-ottawa-area/

My guess would be your best chance of having it all picked up by the same organization at the same time, would be to contact HWF (Helping with Furniture), or IMMIGRANT WOMEN SERVICES OTTAWA, or MATTHEW HOUSE OTTAWA – FURNITURE BANK. See the link provided above for contact info. I was in the same boat as you once, which is why I created this website. I know what it is like to try to give stuff away. It can be quite difficult. Hope this information assists you. Best of luck. I’m sure there are folks on that list who would love to have the remaining stuff. Regards, Michelle Beaupre, owner CharityWishList.ca

  9. I was wondering which of the above would be best to contact re. a couch with a pull out bed (high-quality, excellent condition) that I have to donate but need picked up from a condo building (with an elevator).

    Thank you for any suggestions.

    • CharityWishList.ca

Hi Adam, if you are within their pick-up area (see listing here), I would suggest try HWF (Helping with Furniture) first. Their website has a map of where they pick-up from in Ottawa. If you are outside of their pick-up area, then maybe try Matthew House-Furniture Bank (if you don’t mind paying a small fee); or Immigrant Women’s Shelter. (All listed on the my webpage.)

  10. I have one tall and one lower dresser in excellent shape that was left to me in a will. The finish looks like wood, and looks like new, no scratches, excellent condition. I am retired and can not move the furniture from my basement myself but if any organization could use it I would be happy to donate it. One is a tall dresser/storage for linen chest and the other is a lower chest of drawers and they match together. I am in Nepean not in the HWF area and am not able to assist with the moving costs.
    Thank you,
    Kim

  11. Susanne Herbert

Hi there. We have office furniture including three large corner desks. Do you know of any charities in the Ottawa area that will pick up large furniture like this? Thanks for creating this great resource!

  12. Ginette Villeneuve

Hi my name is Ginette Villeneuve
I’ve got a mattress and a box spring to give away and a dresser
and a tv stand still in good condition

    • Hi Ginette, that is great. Have you contacted the charity of your choice directly? For example, for mattress and box spring donation I would suggest you contact Immigrant Women Services: Shahnaz Perveen, Transition and Housing Support Worker
      Telephone number: 613-729-3145 ext. 231
Address: 219 Argyle Street, Suite 400, Ottawa, Ontario K2P 2H4
      E-mail: [email protected]
Note that CharityWishList.ca provides info on charities and then you would contact them directly to make arrangements. CharityWishList.ca doesn’t collect any items itself. Hope this is helpful. Thanks, Michelle Beaupre

  13. I have a glass topped rattan coffee table and a Kitchen table and 4 chairs all in good condition also a microwave cart excellent condition. I live in Greely ont

    • Hi Frank, thank you for your interest in finding a new home for your furniture! I have left a voice mail with St.Vincent de Paul on Merivale Rd in Nepean to see if them picking-up in Greely is an option for you, if you are interested. I will reply again as soon as I hear back. Thanks, Michelle Beaupre, Owner, CharityWishList.ca

    • Hi Frank, I haven’t heard back from the charity I called, so I left another message. Have you looked at the Ottawa listings and contacted any to see if they would pick-up in Greely? I understand that Greely is about 15-30 min from Ottawa depending where you live in Greely. You may also want to check with your local churches. Could you email me please so I can contact you? Thanks, Michelle Beaupre [email protected]

  14. I have a chair, ottoman and sofa i would like to donate, it would have to be picked up and as I am donating it I do not want to pay a fee to have it picked up. I would prefer it go to someone who needs it as opposed to just putting it on the side of the road for free. Suggestions for charities that would pick up

  15. I guess charities are not that desperate for furniture to help people in need… I called various organizations and NOBODY is willing to pick up 2 arm chairs (used, but still in very serviceable condition) that I am trying to donate! I enlisted the help of 2 men to haul them up from my basement into my enclosed garage (in the spirit of helping whomever will pick them up!) and they have been sitting there… Worn but still very serviceable! The excuse I keep getting is “COVID” … Seems that since COVID, there is no longer a need to help families in need.

  16. Good morning, we have about 100 twin beds (no mattress), room desks, night tables and 29 coffee tables that we need to get rid of from a uOttawa campus residence; they are all in VERY good shape. Other than the list you provided above, are there any others that could take large amounts of items?

    • Hi Brigitte, that is wonderful. I will email you directly – you can also reach me via telephone at 613-859-3742. I can think of a couple of organizations that can put those to great use immediately. – Michelle Beaupre, CharityWishList.ca

  17. Hi there! I have some bedroom furniture I want to get rid of in good condition. Free pick-up at my place would be required. Is that possible?

  18. Hello! I have brand new widow blinds (still in boxes with instructions, never hung or used) which I’m having a hard time donating (tried Sally Anne, Habitat for Humanity). Wondering if you might know of any organizations who might like them – they are beautiful and very high quality (retail was around $2k). Thanks!
